A change of plans from our original - we are leaving tomorrow and driving as far as Cave City, Kentucky. We are planning on staying in the Wigwam Village there. Saturday morning we will get up early and head to Chicago with plans to start Route 66 early Sunday morning.
The past few days have been filled with the excitement of planning...looking at maps and plotting stops, shops, and restaurants for our first day. Cozy Dogs and the Chain of Rocks Bridge are musts in Illinois. We were disappointed to find that the Chain of Rocks Motel has become an Economy Inn. What other Mother Road icons will we find closed or torn down or taken over by "progress". I found a Facebook page dedicated to "Is Route 66 Dead?"; I certainly hope not.
We have not thought much beyond the Illinois border except to think that untold adventures await us on the open road.
